MIXING FAQ
YES – Please provide a copy of the full song as a WAV or MP3 as well as the individual stems, and leave your own “home mastering” turned on. This is important because it helps us to understand you vision for the track. And, it will allow us to check all stems have been correctly received and are functioning as per your original arrangement.
When you are exporting the stems, ensure all plugins on the master bus are removed/turned off. Turn off all plugins on the master channel ONLY.
Leave all the plugins on individual channels, groups and instruments activated.
Do NOT reset all your fader levels to zero. But, DO ensure there is no red-lining or clipping occurring at any point during the track.
There should be no part of your track exceeding 0db on the master channel. A good habit is to have your master levels peak at around -6db, as this is the level expected for mastering. In most cases you can bring the faders up/down in unison to achieve this without losing your track level settings.
YES – Please send one or two reference tracks that are in a style that you are trying to go for. The reference tracks are very important for me to understand your vision and to be able to assess any differences between where the track is at and where you want to get to. A good reference track has a similar style, similar BPM and is in the same key as your track.
